What's Happening In The Cayman Islands This Month?

14 May 2019

The Cayman Islands is a great place to live and to visit! It won second place in the 2016 TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards in the Top 10 Caribbean Islands category, which is based on millions of real and unbiased reviews and opinions from world travellers.

The Cayman Islands are famed above all for their excellent diving and beautiful beaches. With a population of 60,413, the islands ranked 22 in the top 25 destinations in the world – alongside major cities such as Sydney, Paris, and London. With the highest standard of living in the Caribbean, the tourism industry is geared toward the luxury market. Seven Mile Beach won the Caribbean’s Best Beach and offered Best Snorkelling and Diving.  2017 saw the Cayman Islands continue to attract a great deal of recognition for diving.

Cayman has many fun and exciting events that take place throughout the year. The top three over the next few weeks include:

  1. Cayman Billfish Rundown is an international fishing tournament in Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, presented by Hurley’s Media, Dart and The Residences at Seafire, taking place Tuesday, May 14th to Friday, May 17th 2019. Indulge in multiple days of fishing, Caribbean cuisine, local activities and the Island’s largest entertainment event – CayMas Carnival.
  2. CayMAS is a vessel to experience the Carnival and to discover the Islands. CayMAS is a movement made up of a collection of entities who have had influences in the Carnival scene in Cayman over the years, who want to see the development of Carnival. This thing we call Carnival can become a viable tourism product for the Cayman Islands, especially during a period of the year when the tourism takes a dip in stay-over tourism. The goal of CayMAS is to create a viable tourism product and a highly organised event for locals and visitors alike. We aim to make this a more inclusive and democratic process of the operation of the Carnival, of different individuals who have the same goal of enhancing the Carnival product of Cayman.
  3. The Annual Flowers One Mile Sea Swim & Walk & Watch will be held Saturday 15th June 2019. The race starts at The Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman and Ends at Royal Palms Beach Bar.  Every year 1,000 swimmers enter Cayman’s crystal clear blue flat waters along Seven Mile Beach and compete in the Flowers One Mile Sea Swim along stunning Seven Mile Beach. The Sea Swim is one of Cayman's biggest sporting events and is also known as the world’s richest race, with participants being eligible to win $100,000 in prizes. Even better, it’s also a fantastic fundraising event as all entry fees are donated to a local charity.
