It’s no secret that communication is the key to success in the world of network marketing. As an on-air personality, I’ve found that communicating with thousands of listeners via a 100 thousand watt radio station is no different than talking to prospects on the phone. I’ve spent 13 years in the radio industry entertaining and informing listeners in different markets all over the US and around the globe. Before starting my own home-based business, I’d broadcast everywhere from Reno, Nevada to the United Arab Emirates; Bangor, Maine to the Cayman Islands. Early on, I found that entertaining the masses was far less stressful than doing a prospect interview for my home-based business. These tips helped me become a more effective network marketer by sounding like one. Remember, it’s not only what you say it’s how you say it.
You’re not selling your business, your selling yourself. If you’re a phony on the radio, listeners know and change the station. A home-based business is no different. So be yourself. Being genuine and personable goes a long way. This earns your prospect’s trust, which in turn will make them feel comfortable and more open to what you have to say.
Nobody gets a second chance at a first impression. A bland, monotone delivery is just as off putting as bad radio. Wearing a big smile is an old broadcasting trick that will hide any hint of nervous tension in your voice and put you in a mindset for success. I still get butterflies punching in digits and hearing that ring on the other end of the line but with my grin and positive mindset I don’t sound nervous and neither will you.
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes – everybody does. You’re only human and the prospect will understand that. It lets them know that you’re an average Joe or Jane, just like them. If you need to use notes…DO IT! After 13 years on the air, I still have to write things down. If it’s not in front of me, there’s a chance I’ll forget it. You don’t have to be perfect, just prepared.
Preparing yourself for prospecting calls is just like prepping a radio show. In both situations, you’re in control. Talk to your prospect the same way you’ve rehearsed in the mirror, to your spouse or to your dog. You’re the expert, act like it! Have confidence in yourself. It will come through loud and clear on the other end. . Prospects will be more prone to listen to someone who sounds passionate, upbeat and excited about their opportunity. You are changing lives and you should be proud of that. They could be getting the chance to be part of something big.
My radio show isn’t for everyone. Neither is a home-based business. I consider my listeners special. If others don’t want to tune in, it’s their loss. I approach my home-based business exactly the same way. If a prospect isn’t attracted to the wealth building system I have to teach them then there are hundreds, even thousands of others that will be. Don’t let a difficult or uninterested prospect get you down. It’s not the end of the world. You just learn to broadcast to those special listeners that understand what you are doing.
It no longer makes sense to use my skills to generate riches for someone else so now, I don’t. I work hard to turn my dreams into reality and teach others to be successful master prospectors. We practice preparation, delivery with enthusiasm, being a leader and using your time wisely to build 6 figure incomes for our team. It’s OK to make mistakes, not have all the answers (as long as you know where you can get them) and being nervous. It makes you human. Don’t let those things hold you back from picking up the phone and getting started on the path to a solid, leveraged income. Remember, it’s not only what you say it’s how you say it.
